Once you have installed the Windows client you can install the Web Interface
module. This is available as an optional purchase and allows Web browser
users access to the system. The Web Interface runs on Microsoft's IIS web server help desk software, or suitable web server, and uses a cgi executable called wb2.exe to generate HTML pages. It has been tested with IIS 4 and 5. IIS 4 is available for free from Microsoft in the NT4 option pack. IIS 5 is standard issue with Windows 2000. The IIS interface is very similar in both IIS4 and IIS5, so instructions are shown just for IIS5. First, run the setup program for the web interface located in the NHWebInterface folder of the CD. This will install a folder called c:\NHweb by default and is best on a NTFS partition. The folder contains the wb2.exe file. It also contains a sub folder called diag which contains the published site diagram images that web users can view. It also contains a file called cnetweb.ini. The first line of this tells wb2.exe where the logs folder is located. Normally c:\nhlogs. If you install to a different drive or path, adjust this file. If you don't then IIS will give 'Internal error' instead of the web pages. A folder called c:\nhlogs is created that holds an error message log file and temporary variables for each web user’s sessions. This folder also contains the .udl file used for locating the database for the web interface. It is called nhdatabase.udl and can simply be a copy of the .udl file you use for the Windows interface. Or it can be a different .udl file if you wish to replicate the database to an alternative server, for example. The logs folder also contains an error.log file which has details of errors and end user logins. Note - The installation program only creates a read.me icon. It does not copy any example databases for testing. Use the databases you have used with the Windows interface. Once you have installed the system, the following actions are required to make the web site operational. |
